The Vision

"Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens."

What's Up with TVN?

We're going places in the next several months!

Michelle Ulrich is working with educators all over California with the Business Education Statewide Advisory Committee (BESAC). She's the chairperson for the Virtual Office Management subcommittee. What this means to Virtual Professionals and educators is that she is chairing a committee to improve and create standards for Virtual Assistant curriculum. Her committee is fine-tuning the current Virtual Assistant certificate program curriculum and soon, will also have curriculum standards for both an AA and AS degrees. The AS degree will be for Virtual Assistants who want to act as a help desk to other VAs without the technical know-how.

With California paving the way for Virtual Assistant education, Michelle will bring this information to an international conference held in Vienna, Austria coming up in July 2007. She will share her subcommittee's findings with international educators. You can check out the conference at International Society for Business Education.

Top Ten Reasons to Go Virtual
by Michelle Ulrich

People often ask, 'What is a Virtual Assistant?' and then get that 'Deer in the Headlights' look in their eyes. You know, that glazed over, spaced out look that overcomes them. You know you've lost them as soon as you said it. Why bother continuing the conversation? Sometimes, it is probably best to end it right there, but other times, it's worth the effort to simply say, "It's essentially remote office management." That's what Michelle Ulrich says when speaking in groups or with individuals who think she's from Star Trek or some outer space planet. Once she says those three words, people get that 'aha' look on their face and that 'Deer in the Headlights' look quickly fades away! Once someone came up to her and touched her shoulder and asked, "Are you a hologram?" That was the best response she's gotten so far in her VA career.

Once you are past the glazed look and in a conversation about Virtual Assistance, someone might ask why you started your VA practice. Michelle started hers because she was tired of doing the work of three people and when her third grade daughter came down with Mono, she decided that was it. She took her best friend's advice to become a VA and never looked back!

Why did you go into business for yourself as a Virtual Assistant? Here are ten reasons we came up with.

  1. Earn a higher wage or salary (when you price your services on the national average, you'll likely earn more than in your own town!)
  2. Support your local economy by spending earnings and/or giving back to your community
  3. Live wherever you want - even in rural or remote parts of the country or globe (as long as there's satellite! )
  4. Flexible schedule
  5. More 'You' time, Family time, Vacation time, or just more time
  6. Less stress and more health and wellness
  7. Be in charge of your own destiny (be your own boss!)
  8. Work with clients you LOVE!
  9. Work on projects you LOVE!
  10. LOVE your life!

If you think of any other reasons, send them to info@thevirtualnation.com; we're creating a much bigger list and will post it on our website for you all to see the great reasons why becoming a VA is the best industry to be in!
